Audio Engineer

Job Description

  • Analyze game mechanics and determine an appropriate audio treatment
  • Use your knowledge of audio tools and game editors in order to integrate audio content, fix bugs and create new functionalities
  • Apply audio concepts (sound manipulation tools, music theory etc.) as part of your working audio designs
  • Design and create high-quality audio assets, sound effects, and music that align with the vision and gameplay of interactive gaming experiences.
  • Collaborate closely with game designers, developers, and artists to understand the project’s audio needs and integrate sound seamlessly into the game environment.
  • Develop and implement audio systems within game engines (including but not limited to Unity and Unreal Engine) to enhance player immersion and gameplay experience.
  • Record, edit, and mix audio assets, ensuring optimization for various platforms and devices while maintaining the highest audio quality standards.
  • Implement dynamic and interactive audio elements, such as adaptive soundtracks and responsive sound effects, to enrich user engagement and gameplay dynamics.
  • Conduct thorough testing and iteration of audio elements within the game, considering player feedback and technical constraints to refine and improve audio experiences.

Skills Required

  • Solid skills in various DAWs (Reaper – is preferred, Nuendo, Cubase, Pro Tools, Ableton…) and Audio Editing Tools (Sound Forge, Wavelab…)
  • Has basic knowledge of music theory and concepts (rhythm, harmony, etc)
  • Comfortable working with audio pipeline packages
  • Understands the basic functions of an audio engine
  • Strong understanding of sound design principles, Foley recording, and audio synthesis techniques tailored for game development.
  • Experience with game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine, including proficiency in implementing audio systems, spatial audio, and middleware (e.g., FMOD, Wwise).
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and adapt audio design based on game design goals and technical requirements.
  • Knowledge of various audio formats and their optimization for different platforms and devices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to iterate and optimize audio elements based on user testing and feedback basic knowledge about field recording (ambiance sounds)

Qualifications and Experience

  • BS – CS, IT, Software Engineering or any other Audio related 2 years certification.
  • 2-3 years of experience.
